Are you getting tired of all the mediocre vape juice flavors out there and think you can do better yourself? You’re not alone, thousands of vapers all around the world create their own e-juice, not for profit but for passion. And guess what? You can do the exact same thing. You just need to get a couple of things together.
E-juice is comprised of four main ingredients; nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and flavoring extract. Let’s first start with nicotine, mainly because it is the most overlooked in terms of quality. Many newbie e-juice makers just think that nicotine is nicotine, and you just gotta buy some but that’s far from the truth. You’re going to want to get your nicotine from a pure source, otherwise you risk messing up your entire batch.
I’ve heard stories of DIY vape juice makers who have done everything else right except use the highest quality, pure nicotine, only to find that there juice taste way too peppery or hits too harsh. You’re going to want to get your liquid nicotine from a trusted, pure source.
Next is the propylene glycol. You can buy this solution in bulk, same as you can nicotine, at special wholesale prices. PG is a colorless, odorless substance that is the flavor carrier. The flavoring extract that you add in the e-juice is carried and amplified by PG.
Once you got your nicotine and PG source, next up is vegetable glycerin. VG is also a colorless, odorless liquid primarily derived from plant oils. VG is where most the cloud production in e-juice comes from. The more VG your e-juice is comprised of, generally the larger the cloud production of the e-juice. The more PG your e-juice is comprised of, the more of a throat hit feel your juice will give with more of an intense flavor.
Now nicotine also adds to throat hit, so keep that in mind. Higher quality nicotine will provide a more smoother throat hit than poor quality nicotine.
A word on nicotine salts. You can also use a new type of nicotine called nicotine salts that give off a stronger, quicker nicotine hit that simulates cigarettes better than regular nicotine. Most nicotine manufacturers offer this type of nicotine as well, so definitely something to look into.
The fourth ingredient you’ll need to source is flavoring extract. There are a bunch of companies that only supply flavorings for e-juice, and most are willing to work with smaller DIY e-juice guys (or girls), such as yourself. Pick your favorite flavors and get creative mixing up flavor combinations. Who knows what you’ll be able to produce – the combinations are endless.
The fifth and final ingredient, the MOST OVERLOOKED, is … PASSION. You have to put passion and love into your e-liquid recipe for it to really work. No, this isn’t some mystical mumbo jumbo, this is facts. Have fun mixing your e-liquid, and the outcome will be that much better.
Once you have all your ingredients together, it’s time to start mixing your juice up and experimenting. We’ll cover exactly how to do that in our next post.
